After 14 Years, Akshay Kumar To Reunite With Hera Pheri Director Priyadarshan For A Horror Fantasy Film Produced By Ektaa Kapoor

Apr 26, 2024

Filmmaker Priyadarshan and actor Akshay Kumar are teaming up once more after a hiatus of 14 years. The duo is known for their past collaborations on hits like Hera Pheri and Bhool Bhulaiyaa. They are now set to thrill audiences with a unique blend of horror and humour in their upcoming project.

Confirming the news, Priyadarshan revealed that their next venture will be a spine-chilling horror fantasy, infused with elements of laughter. The film will be about black magic and will offer viewers an exhilarating experience.

Here’s What Priyadarshan Said About His Next Film With Akshay Kumar

Talking to Hindustan Times, Priyadarshan shared, “Now that I am done with my docu-series on the Ram Mandir’s history, my most important film on which I am beginning work is the one with Akshay, produced by Ekta Kapoor. It is a horror fantasy with humour.”

Responding to comparisons with their previous hit, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Priyadarshan clarified that while the latter was a psychological thriller, their upcoming venture will explore the realm of fantasy against the backdrop of India’s ancient superstitions surrounding black magic.

Expressing his excitement about reuniting with Akshay Kumar, Priyadarshan praised the actor’s adeptness in handling emotions on screen. He remarked, “It is always a pleasure collaborating with Akshay. From our first film to this one, it has always turned out well with him; he handles the emotions so well. I was waiting for a good subject to get back with him, and this one I feel will be that.”

Priyadarshan Is NOT A Fan Of Sequels And Remakes

The director confessed his reluctance towards sequels, stating, “The first one is always the best, like Hera Pheri. It will always be good, you can make whatever second or third parts. People will always say they liked the original. In sequels, makers exploit the success of that market.”

While he doesn’t shy away from remakes, citing his adaptation of the Malayalam film Ramaji Rao Speaking into Hera Pheri, Priyadarshan feels it’s important to cater to diverse audience preferences. He remarked, “But I never remake films which I have made only for my satisfaction. As a maker, I have tried horror, comedy, romance.”

Priyadarshan concluded by saying, “I always try to make sure my films do not have double meaning or content that cannot be watched by parents with their children.”

Akshay’s latest movie, BMCM, didn’t do well in cinemas. It was a big disaster and was also accused of a ‘corporate scam’. Now, he has several other movies lined up for release. These include Sky Force, a cameo in Singham Again, Welcome to the Jungle, a biopic on C Shankaran Nair, and a few more.
