Priyadarshan Says: ‘Every Film I Made With Akshay Kumar Was Super Hit’ – Will Bhooth Bangla Keep The Record?
Filmmaker Priyadarshan is back in action with Akshay Kumar for the horror comedy Bhooth Bangla, marking their first collaboration after 14 years.
The duo, known for their hit films like Hera Pheri, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, and Bhagam Bhag, last teamed up for Khatta Meetha in 2010. Priyadarshan is excited to reunite with the superstar and feels confident about their latest project.
Priyadarshan On Reuniting With Akshay Kumar For Bhooth Bangla
In an interview with PTI during the IIFA Awards in Abu Dhabi, Priyadarshan expressed his delight about working with Akshay again. “Every film I’ve made with him has been a super hit,” he stated.
He also addressed the notion that he is the reason behind Akshay’s success in comedy. “What I did was exploit his sense of humour on screen,” he said, adding that they both hope to meet audience expectations with their new project.
Priyadarshan praised Akshay as a “director’s delight.” He described him as a disciplined actor who arrives on time and listens closely to directions. “After Amit ji (Amitabh Bachchan), he is a dedicated actor,” Priyadarshan noted, highlighting the professionalism Akshay brings to the set.
Filmmaker Says THIS On Upcoming Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3
The veteran director is also waiting for the release of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which will be out this Diwali. Directed by Anees Bazmee, this third instalment of the popular horror-comedy franchise follows the success of the second film, released in 2022.
Priyadarshan expressed confidence in Bazmee’s ability to handle the new film, stating, “Anees Bazmee did a good job with the second part of Bhool Bhulaiyaa. I think he will do the third part well.”
While Akshay starred in the original Bhool Bhulaiyaa in 2007, the second film featured Kartik Aaryan. In the upcoming third part, Kartik reprises his role as Rooh Baba, who will confront the spirit of Manjulika, originally portrayed by Vidya Balan. New faces in the franchise include Triptii Dimri, while Tabu and Kiara Advani were prominent in the second film.
Priyadarshan Doesn’t Like To Direct Sequels
Interestingly, Priyadarshan revealed that he prefers not to direct sequels of his own films. Although he has received requests to make follow-ups to several of his hits, including Hungama, Malamaal Weekly, and Garam Masala, he believes that each film should stand alone. “I think it is better to make one film than to make sequels,” he stated. He also acknowledged the challenge of meeting audience expectations with sequels.
For the unversed, Priyadarshan received the Outstanding Contribution to Indian Cinema Award at the IIFA Utsavam held recently.
