Khel Khel Mein Box Office: Akshay Kumar Starrer Is A FLOP With Rs 33.65 Crore Total In 3rd Weekend; Poor Release Timing & Fierce Competition Impact Film’s Collection

Sep 2, 2024

Akshay Kumar’s latest comedy, Khel Khel Mein, is struggling to make a significant impact at the box office. After three weekends, the film has earned Rs 33.65 crore, including Rs 3.90 crore from its third weekend alone. Despite a 25% drop from the previous weekend, the film’s earnings remain steady, thanks to strong showings in high-end multiplexes.

Khel Khel Mein Earnings Fall Short Of Expectations Amid Poor Release Strategy

Khel Khel Mein was initially projected to earn between Rs 20 crore and Rs 25 crore. However, the film has managed to perform better than anticipated and might reach Rs 40 crore by the end of its run. Nevertheless, this figure falls short of the high expectations typically associated with an Akshay Kumar film, given his prominent status in Bollywood.

The film’s performance has been negatively affected by its release timing. It hit theatres during a three-way clash with other major releases, including the highly successful Stree 2. This strategic misstep has significantly hindered its box office potential. A more strategically timed release could have boosted earnings by 30-40%, potentially pushing the total to a more respectable Rs 60-70 crore.

Khel Khel Mein Box Office Collection

Week 1 Rs 20.50 cr
Week 2 Rs 9.25 cr
3rd Friday Rs 0.80 cr
3rd Saturday Rs 1.40 cr
3rd Sunday Rs 1.70 cr

Total: Rs 33.65 crore

Positive Feedback Amidst The Film’s Struggle

Despite its challenges, the film has received some positive feedback from a segment of the audience, which is helping it sustain at lower levels. Khel Khel Mein could have faced a sharp decline similar to Vedaa, but it has managed to maintain a decent performance.

The current trend highlights a broader issue for urban films in the post-pandemic era. Audience consumption patterns have evolved, and success now depends on reaching a wider demographic, not just high-end multiplex goers. With September offering an open window, distributors have a chance to adjust pricing and promotional strategies to boost revenue.

While Khel Khel Mein is certainly a FLOP & unlikely to meet the blockbuster expectations usually associated with an Akshay Kumar film, there is still potential for the film to grow in the coming weeks. Strategic adjustments could help keep the film relevant and profitable in a competitive market.
