After Nearly 7 Years, Ali Abbas Zaffar Returns To Direct Upcoming Big-Budget YRF Films – Details Inside!
Ali Abbas Zafar is set to make a major comeback with Yash Raj Films (YRF) after several years. The filmmaker, known for hits like Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, Gunday, Sultan, and Tiger Zinda Hai, is reuniting with the production house for a new series of projects.

His most recent project, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, which was produced by T-Series, did not fare well at the box office. This setback has apparently led Zafar back to his roots with YRF.
A source told Variety, “Ali Abbas Zafar is a filmmaker who has gone on to make huge hit films at YRF like ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan,’ ‘Sultan,’ ‘Gunday,’ and ‘Tiger Zinda Hai.’ So, this is an exciting development because Ali is technically returning to his alma mater.”
The source also added, “We are sure Ali will scale greater heights as he creatively collaborates with Aditya Chopra on multiple big-budget tentpole projects for YRF. The two haven’t yet locked the projects that Ali will now direct at YRF. But we can confirm that these will be original theatrical projects.”
Filmmaker’s Journey With Yash Raj Films
Zafar, who began his career with YRF, has worked on several successful films under their banner. His debut, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, was a significant hit, earning Rs 94.10 crore worldwide from a budget of Rs 28 crore. This success continued with Gunday, which grossed Rs 130.90 crore against a Rs 51 crore budget. Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai also performed exceptionally well, with earnings of Rs 421.25 crore and Rs 558 crore respectively.
After these successes, Zafar made films like Bharat, the Amazon Prime Video series Tandav, and the Netflix drama Jogi under different banners.
Zafar’s return to YRF marks a significant moment, given his track record with the studio. The upcoming projects are expected to be high-profile and original theatrical releases, although the exact details of these projects are yet to be confirmed.
