Border 2 is a sequel to J.P. Dutta’s 1997 blockbuster Border, which starred Deol and depicted the 1971 battle at Longewala. This new instalment will continue the legacy of the original film, highlighting another pivotal moment in Indian military history.
Anurag Singh, known for directing the critically acclaimed Kesari (2019), will helm this sequel. Kesari was based on the Battle of Saragarhi, where 21 Sikh soldiers defended against 10,000 Afghan fighters. Singh’s direction promises to bring a fresh and gripping perspective to this war epic.
Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, J.P. Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta under the banners of T-Series and J.P. Films, Border 2 is gearing up for a grand release. With its Republic Day release date, the film aims to honour the bravery and sacrifices of Indian soldiers through a powerful and dramatic narrative.
Ayushmann Khurrana Was Initially In Talks For The Film
Earlier reports had suggested that Ayushmann Khurrana was set to play a soldier in the film, but he later backed out due to creative differences. A source revealed, “Ayushmann was in talks to play a soldier in the sequel. While both Ayushmann and the makers were keen on collaborating, the actor felt unsure of his positioning in an ensemble led by Sunny Deol, a towering star in his own right.”
Additionally, there have been talks about Diljit Dosanjh joining the cast. The popular actor-singer, who has gained international fame, was approached for a role, though nothing is confirmed yet. A source mentioned, “It will be a treat to see Diljit and Sunny together on screen, given their strong audience base in north India.”
Meanwhile, Varun Dhawan, who recently appeared in a cameo in Stree 2, has several exciting projects lined up, including Bhediya 2, Baby John, and an untitled film directed by his father, David Dhawan.
