Karan Johar Gets Emotional Remembering Father Yash Johar’s Unconditional Support, Reveals He Used To Introduce KJo As ‘Best Director of India’

Aug 11, 2024

Karan Johar has established himself as a leading figure in Indian cinema in the past 26 years. However, despite his success, one regret continues to haunt him—the absence of his late father, Yash Johar, who did not live to see his son reach the peak of his career.

In a recent appearance on Zakir Khan’s new show, Aapka Apna Zakir, Karan opened up about his father’s profound influence on his life and career.

Karan Johar REVEALS Yash Johar Saying ‘ You Should Become A Hero’

Yash Johar began his production journey with the 1980 film Dostana. Reflecting on his father’s career, Karan recalls the many challenges Yash Johar faced, particularly during times of failure. “I’ve witnessed a lot of failures through my father’s journey, and that is when I realised that nothing is easy,” Karan shared. These experiences taught Karan resilience which helped him in his own career.

Karan also spoke warmly about the endless support he received from his parents, Yash Johar and Hiroo Johar. His father’s steadfast belief in him, even in the face of industry scepticism, left a lasting impression on Karan. He fondly recalled a memory of his father’s encouragement: “My father used to say, ‘You’re so handsome, you should become a hero!’” This suggestion was often met with humour by his mother, Hiroo, who would playfully dismiss the idea.

Karan Feels Regret As Yash Wasn’t With Him During The Best Phase

As Karan’s career took off with films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Yash Johar was very much proud of him. Karan remembers how his father would introduce him as “the best director in all of India.” However, this joy was short-lived. Yash Johar passed away in 2004, just as Dharma Productions, the company he founded, was entering a period of unprecedented success. Karan revealed, “My biggest regret is that he wasn’t with me when Dharma Productions was going through its best phase.”

On the professional front, Karan Johar’s latest directorial venture was Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh. Reports suggest that Karan is now gearing up to direct another untitled project.
