Ektaa Kapoor Saw And Loved Dibakar Banerjee’s Unreleased Shelved Netflix Film Tees, Said THIS Shocking Thing To Him
With the release of LSD 2, filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee finds himself back in the limelight. Unlike his recent struggles with releasing movies, Banerjee’s latest launch is smoother sailing. Amid this, he has revealed an interesting story about his shelved Netflix film Tees and what Ektaa Kapoor told him.
In a conversation with Indian Express, he addressed the perception of a stress-free release and chuckled, suggesting otherwise. “If you think that’s the case, obviously you weren’t part of us which is why you have the feeling it wasn’t stress-free!” he quips during a candid conversation with Indianexpress.com.
While Love Sex Aur Dhoka 2 has earned critical acclaim, its reception at the box office hasn’t matched expectations. However, Banerjee remains unfazed, no stranger to navigating through challenging circumstances in his career. His films, irrespective of commercial success, have consistently found their audience.
Dibakar Banerjee Reveals Ektaa Kapoor Said THIS After Watching His Shelved Netflix Film Tees
Reflecting on how LSD 2 was brought to life, Banerjee revealed an interesting story. The idea gained traction amidst the uncertainty surrounding his Netflix project, Tees. He stated, “I remember finishing Tees in 2020 through COVID. After having finished the film with a lot of effort, reimagining, hoping that now that people are stuck inside their homes maybe this will get the maximum attention. However, Netflix told us this was a good time to release the film.”
He further added, “During a screening for Tees with Ektaa, she told me, ‘Look this is not going to release. I loved the film, but I wouldn’t want to release this film. But I am still waiting for us to make LSD 2.’”
Dibakar On Perceptions Of Him Not Being Fond Of Mainstream Cinema Or Actors
Responding to perceptions about his inclination towards mainstream cinema and stars, Banerjee offers a pragmatic view. He emphasised that his creative process prioritises storytelling over star personas. While acknowledging the significance of stars in the industry, Banerjee clarified that his selection of actors is driven by their commitment to the craft rather than their celebrity status.
Contrary to misconceptions, Banerjee pointed out that he has collaborated with established names like Sushant Singh Rajput, Parineeti Chopra, and Arjun Kapoor, citing their enthusiasm for immersive preparation, attending workshops and willingness to explore diverse roles.
For the unversed, Dibakar Banerjee’s LSD 2 was released in theatres on April 20.
