Sep 1, 2023

The much-awaited action thriller Salaar, starring Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead roles, has been delayed from its original release date of September 28, 2023. The makers of the film, Hombale Films, have cited the need for more time for post-production work as the reason for the postponement. The new release date of the film has not been announced yet. However some murmurs suggest that Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire might now be released in December 2023 or January 2024

Salaar: A Pan-India Film With High Expectations

Salaar is a pan-India film directed by Prashanth Neel, who is known for his blockbuster KGF series. The film marks the first collaboration between Neel and Prabhas, who is one of the most popular actors in India. The film also features Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran as the antagonist, along with Shruti Haasan, Jagapathi Babu, Easwari Rao, Sriya Reddy and others in supporting roles. The film is expected to be a high-octane action drama with Prabhas playing a violent character named Salaar. The film is being made in Telugu and will be dubbed in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam languages.

Prabhas’ Salaar Postponed Due To Post-Production Work

Salaar was announced in December 2020 and was launched in January 2021 with a grand ceremony in Hyderabad. The shooting of the film began in Godavarikhani, Telangana and later moved to various locations in Karnataka, Kerala and Hyderabad. The film was initially slated to release on April 14, 2022 but was pushed to September 28, 2023 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the delay in Neel’s KGF: Chapter 2. However, even after completing the shooting, the film faced another hurdle in the form of post-production work. According to sources, the film requires extensive graphics work and editing, which could not be completed by the deadline. As a result, the makers decided to postpone the film once again and informed the distributors and exhibitors about their decision.

“Salaar holds a prominent position among the big films emerging from India, and the creators are determined to meet the high expectations of fans and moviegoers. Unfortunately, the film is not yet ready and requires additional time for post-production. Consequently, Prabhas, Prashant Neel, and their team collectively agreed to postpone the movie from its original September 28 release date. The distributors in the USA and India have also been notified about it, while the USA’s bookings will be canceled and refunds will be issued. The makers will finalize a new date and make an official announcement soon,” an industry source informed another publication.

Adipurush, the ambitious mythological film starring Prabhas as Lord Ram, was supposed to be a visual spectacle that would showcase the grandeur of the Ramayana on the big screen. However, the film turned out to be a huge disappointment for the fans and critics alike, who slammed the film for its poor VFX and CGI. Probably why Salaar makers want to spend more time on film’s post production.

The film, directed by Om Raut and made on a budget of Rs 500 crore, used motion capture technology and computer-generated imagery (CGI) to create the world of Adipurush. However, the technology failed to impress the viewers, who found the graphics to be unrealistic, cartoonish and outdated. The film’s teaser, which was released on October 2, 2022, received a lot of backlash for its subpar animation and VFX. Many compared the film’s visuals to Hollywood blockbusters like Game of Thrones, Planet of the Apes, Jungle Book and others, and found Adipurush to be inferior in quality.

Salaar’s Postponement: A Disappointment For Prabhas’ Fans

The news of Salaar’s postponement has come as a disappointment for the fans of Prabhas and Prashanth Neel, who were eagerly waiting for the film’s release. Many fans took to social media to express their frustration and sadness over the delay. Some fans also asked makers to announce the new release date soon. However, some fans also showed their support and understanding for the makers and hoped that they would deliver a quality product that would be worth the wait.

Salaar is one of the most awaited films of 2023 and has raised high expectations among the audience. The film’s budget is over Rs. 200 crores. The film is produced by Vijay Kiragandur under his banner Hombale Films. The film’s new release date is yet to be revealed by the makers. However some murmurs suggest that Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire might now be released in December 2023 or January 2024
