Farhan Akhtar To Act And Sing In The Musical Remake Of Begin Again; Nitya Mehra To Helm
Farhan Akhtar, the versatile actor, producer, director and singer, seems to have a huge line up ahead. He has two directorial ventures – Don 3 starring Ranveer Singh and Jee Le Zaraa starring Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra. The actor also is featuring as a main lead in the remake of Spanish film, Campeones produced by Aamir Khan productions.
Now it is being reported that the actor-director is set to sign two more films as an actor, making it three films for him as an actor and two films as a director in the next couple of years.
Farhan Akhtar To Star In Hindi Remake Of Begin Again
Meanwhile, we have learnt that Farhan is reportedly also in advanced talks to play the lead role in the Hindi remake of the 2013 Hollywood musical comedy-drama film Begin Again. The film, which starred Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo, was a critical and commercial success, earning an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song for “Lost Stars”.
According to sources, the Hindi remake will be directed by Nitya Mehra, who has previously helmed Baar Baar Dekho and the web series Made in Heaven. The film will be produced by Vikram Malhotra’s Abundantia Entertainment. The film is expected to go on floors by the end of this year with a start-to-finish schedule, post which he will get into Champions remake.
“Farhan, and Nitya in talks for a musical comedy for a while now, and things are in advanced stages of development at the moment. It’s said to be a remake of the 2013 Hollywood classic, Begin Again, and will go on floors by the end of this year with a start-to-finish schedule. The film chronicles the journey of a musician, who goes on to produce an album that breaks all the records,” revealed a source close to the development, adding further that both Farhan and the female protagonist play characters rooted against the backdrop of the Indian Music Industry.
It is being anticipated that Farhan Akhtar will also sing in the Hindi remake of the film, like he did for Rock On.
The Plot of Begin Again
Begin Again tells the story of a singer-songwriter (Knightley) who is discovered by a struggling record label executive (Ruffalo) and collaborates with him to produce an album recorded in public locations all over New York City. Along the way, they bond both personally and professionally, and learn to fall in love again.
The film features a soundtrack composed by Gregg Alexander, the former lead singer of the New Radicals, and performed by the actors themselves. The film also features Adam Levine, Hailee Steinfeld, James Corden, Yasiin Bey, CeeLo Green and Catherine Keener in supporting roles.
Farhan Akhtar’s Upcoming Projects
He is expected to start shooting for Campeones remake in January 2024, followed by Don 3 which is expected to start only by late 2024 since Ranveer Singh is busy with Baiju Bawra for first half of the next year. Farhan Akhtar will focus on Jee Le Zaraa only once he’s done shooting Don 3. It is also being reported that Akhtar will sign another acting assignment with Excel Entertainment after wrapping Campeones before he starts Don 3.
“Farhan was also committed to doing Champions for Aamir Khan Production, but the film as of today is slated to go on floors in January 2024. This will be followed by another acting assignment for Farhan, to be produced by Excel Entertainment and then finally Don 3,” the source added.
The actor-director said, “Right now, I’m just waiting for the dates to align, it’s not been easy at all. So, my focus is currently on Don 3 and Jee Le Zaraa will be picked up post that. I’m also doing two films next year before we get into Don 3, as an actor. In January, I will start a film which is being produced by Aamir Khan Productions. It’s being directed by RS Prasanna, who directed Shubh Mangal Saavdhan. He’s a great director. Then I will do another film for Excel Entertainment, which will start roughly in June or July. And then I get into directing Don 3,” said Farhan.
